Humiliated by her school, this teen found support eleswhere
Aniya Wolf is just like any other teenager. Naturally she was looking forward to her junior prom.
The 17 year old from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was very excited about the upcoming prom and was ready to dance the night away with her best friends and classmates.
When it came to what to where, Aniya had no troubles deciding. Her style was all about pants rather than dresses. She had gone out with her mum to purchase a new suit for the special occasion.
That’s when the trouble started.
After administrators from her Catholic high school, Bishop McDevitt, found out that Aniya wanted to wear a suit to the dance, things turned rather sour.
They told Aniya and her mother she would be asked to leave if she came to the dance in the suit
To make matters worse, this conflict began just hours before the formal was due to begin. The school argued that the dress code was clearly stated in a previous note to parents. (In retort, Aniya’s mother, Carolyn Wolf, claimed the dress code never explicitly stated suits for the boys only).
“I can’t put a dress on her any more than I could put a dress on any of my sons,” Carolyn told Today. “That’s not who she is.”
Aniya decided to attend in her suit and the Machiavellian school administrators, said she had to leave and even threatened to call the police.
Poor Aniya had no choice but to miss her prom
“I felt humiliated, getting kicked out of prom,” she told Today. “I wasn’t going to hurt anybody with a suit.”
The good news is, people across the country heard the story and are showing their support!
Women around the country donned suits and tuxedos and shared their photos using the hashtag #suitsforaniya.
