It is estimated that 30 million stray dogs currently roam the streets of India.

Most of the roads and streets throughout the country are poorly lit. This means that the inevitable happens to the many pups that are without a home. They often end up causing accidents or become roadkill.

To help reduce the numbers of accidents and to save strays from being hit by vehicles, a non-profit organization called Motopaws has come up with an extremely simple yet effective initiative.

They have created thousands of reflective collars made from donated denim, and are using volunteers to take to the streets to fit them on the dogs..

While it’s certainly not a solution to the massive stray problem that India has, it has already gone a long way toward saving lives.

You can find out more on the Motopaws Facebook page.
